Lose Weight Fast Diets

Lose weight fast diets – a quick fix?

Lose WeightIs there such a thing as fast diets that work? It depends what you define as “working” and “fast”. And also – why do you want to lose weight fast? Why do you need fast diets?

If you need to fit into that special dress in one weeks time fast diets might be for you.

If you want to lose weight permanently (and not just a few kilos) you might want to consider to change your eating and exercise habits.

Today I will have a look at the some of the so called lose weight fast diets to lose a few pounds in a short time, next time I will talk about long-term changes in your diet to achieve and keep your dream weight. Sometimes the need to lose weight fast doesn’t translate into keeping the weight off mid to long term.

The first thing that you need to do if you are considering a lose weight fast diet is to seek your doctor’s advice on the plan you want to follow. He or she will be able to provide their educated advice on the diet after a full physical examination, which will let you know if this plan is right for you.

What are “lose weight fast diets”?

So, what are these lose weight fast diets? Basically they are exactly that – a fast as in “fasting”.

What you do is deprive your body from the calories and nutrients that your body needs. This is why you should follow them only for a limited time.Your body goes into starvation mode which means once you are back to normal eating you will most likely end up with a higher weight then before the diet.

Because you add much less calories than you burn off with normal daily work you will lose weight. It is not necessarily fat but mostly water and some muscle mass.

Some lose weight fast diets

Lemon Detox Diet

Lemon Detox Diet

While on the diet your only intake throughout the day is the lemon detox drink which consists of lemon, tree syrup, cayenne pepper, salt, herbal tea and water. Many of these ingredients are recognized as releasing toxins in the body. All the ingredients play different roles in the detoxifying process.

Cabbage soup diet

The Soup Diet is based on a fat-burning soup that contains negligible calories. The more soup you eat the more weight you should lose. It allows people to eat as much Cabbage Soup as they want each day, which should sound appealing to dieters. Should only be done for 7 days.

Juice Fast DietThe Juice Fast Diet

Basically, this diet involves drinking juiced versions of vegetables and fruits. Your body will easily absorb all the nutrients and calories of these items and they will yield rapid weight loss. Just be careful about turning this into an outrageously low calorie diet plan. Only do that for a few days!

Grapefruit diet (sometimes known as Hollywood Diet)

The premise of the Grapefruit Diet is based on an alleged “magical” ingredient in grapefruits, that, when eaten with protein, theoretically triggers fat burning and causes weight loss. The weight loss achieved is primarily from fluids and not fat and generally returns as soon as you go off the diet.

So – what to do now?

I am sure there are lots of other fast diets out there which – as long as you only do it for a few days, preferably less than 1 week – will help you to lose some weight but are not very healthy long term. You even can lose weight if you only eat chocolate and deprive your body of necessary nutrients.

If you really want to follow one of these lose weight fast diets

  • get as much information about the fast diets you are interested in as possible, best is to talk to people who have done this specific diet before themselves
  • find the one fast diet that you will be able to follow best
  • check with your doctor to make sure there are no health risks for you
  • only stay on such an extreme diet for a limited time

If you want to reduce your weight and keep it down long term it is necessary to continuously change your eating and exercise habits so you burn of more calories than you take in while your body is still receiving everything he needs in nutrients.

More about that in the next post

So have you ever tried any  lose weight fast diets? Why did you want to do it? And what was your experience? Leave a comment and let me know.

    Hi Renee,

Like the run down on those nasty lose weight fast diets.

It is a shame that fasting has been done incorrectly for so long and beaten up by the media.

A proper fast should include water, and plenty of it. When on an extended water fast, the body goes through a specific process and from my personal knowledge, the impact of a water fast when done correctly, can be amazing. Once finished the fast, the person should look to eat raw foods instead of going back to their diet which was causing the weight gain in the first place.

I like your bullet point advice under “so – what to do now”.

Thanks for sharing tips to keep us all healthy!

    Regards, Eileen.

Really enjoyed reading your article about lose weight fast diets. They are a reminder of the New Years Resolution that is hastily made on the night with out planning.

Planning is the key with a lose weight fast diet. If done for a few days for the right reasons and with planning my body will also be saying thank you.

Thank you for the article and given me food for thought.

    Hi Renee

I have to admit, I’ve never done a lose weight fast diet. I’m definitely a fan of having a balance lifestyle and nutrition – although I do love my wine and fish n chips… Planning really is the key to everything, isn’t it?

Thanks for putting together this information about lose weight fast diets.

I have always wondered about these types of diets and been a bit scared of trying them. After all, the body works like a machine, if you don’t put fuel in it then it is likely that it won’t function. This article explains the types of fast diets and I especially liked the “So – what to do now?” as it contains some good advice.

I’m still not convinced that these types of diets are completely safe but it has coaxed me to investigate it further and get some more information.

    Thanks for sharing this information

I’ve tried various low-carb, low-calorie, and low-fat diets for the past couple of years. Although the Atkins diet is very popular, it made me feel somewhat unhealthy.

The diet plan I’m on right now is the Medifast Diet. The caloric intake is roughly 800-1000 calories. However, it doesn’t make my body feel weak. It is a bit of a pricey diet, but there are plenty of coupons available on the internet.

My advice is just choose a diet plan which your body reacts positively to. No one knows your body better than you do!

Hi Lucy, I fully agree. Listen to your body – but be honest to yourself when doing so :)

    Great article Renee!!

I hadn’t heard of the cabbage soup diet before – wow! I would have to say that the Juice Fast Diet is the best one – I have read & heard of fantastic results of ridding the body of not only toxins but also certain diseases. The Lemon Detox worries me a bit though – Lemons are high in acid and can hurt the gut. Not sure what others think. Everything in balance!!

I used to work in the health industry & was blown away by some of the stuff I heard so I found your article fascinating.

I also agree about listening to your body & go with how it feels cause that’s what will work.

By the way – ‘Your wellness queen’… LOVE IT!!! You should put capitalise the W & Q – it’s only right!!

I think that the Calorie Shifting Diet is the best to try. I have been counting my calories and excersising every single day, and I have noticed such a dramatic change in my weight. I couldn’t be happier.

I found this great website that has a Online Calorie Counter Check it out. I hope it helps. http://www.fitclick.com/calorie_counter

I think fad diets are ridiculous, you may lose weight right away but you will never keep it off. To lose weight in my opinion you need to make a life change. You need to set a realistic goals for yourself and do some research and read articles like this one. Even you start slow and just start cutting back on the bad foods you eat can help out alot.
